Yekaterinburg (Sverdlovsk region) is often called "capital of rock music" and partly this name comes from Ural Music Night festival. It takes place in the summer, in the center of the city.
1,500 musicians – both famous throughout all Russia and, so to speak, local musicians - go to hundreds of venues - cafes, bars, city parks, and just open spaces like parking lots — and hold concerts all night. For a few hours Yekaterinburg becomes like a parallel universe, one big concert venue. All concerts are absolutely free, admission is available to everyone. This is a great way to get acquainted with modern Ural and Russian music in general.
