Did you know you could see the Marsian picturesque in the Urals?

The Urals Mars and Multicoloured Lakes are both located near the city of Bogdanovich in the Sverdlovsk region. These places are a unique example of the collision of two main features of the Urals - nature and industry. They are one of the very few cases when this collision led not to destruction, but to the birth of something truly fascinating.

The Urals Mars is a clay quarry, which was the place of extraction of refractory clay for the Bogdanovich refractory plant. The area of the quarry is about 75 square meters.

The development of this deposit began in the 19th century. With the construction of the plant in the 30s of the 20th century, the extraction of clay began, which served for the benefit during the Second World War. However, now clay mining has been suspended, and only the equipment left for work in the quarry reminds of the old times.

The similarity of the quarry landscape with the planet Mars is amazing. The quarry has mountains, hills and lakes of different colors and shades. The color depends on the presence of substances in the clay: iron oxide, spherosiderite, pyrite and others.

The Urals Mars is a great place for thematic photo shoots. The place is often visited by professional photographers and models. The Multicoloured Lakes

Multicoloured lakes are 7 beautiful lakes painted in different colors: blue, marsh, brown, red. Like the Ural Mars, they are located in the vicinity of Bogdanovich and were formed as a result of the activities of the Bogdanovichevsky Refractory plant.

The different color of the lakes depends on the clay lying on the bottom, which dissolves in water. There are also lakes with greenish, yellow, burgundy, black water and other interesting shades. Lakes vary in shape, depth and size. You can even swim in some of them.

People come here to see the unique lakes, many people ride bicycles and motorcycles, enjoying the views.
